Association Brain Food Weekly: 7.4.16

Find time and a good place to read this weekend

Thanks to Independence Day, most of us have a four-day work week after the 4th. But I bet many of you will try to cram five days of work into four days. It’s not the ideal time to attend a webinar which explains why no one in the association community, as far as I could tell, scheduled one for this week.

Are you still jonesing for a learning fix? Well, you came to the right person. Here are a few of my favorite association learning spots.

Websites

Associations Now: ASAE’s Associations Now Daily News shows up in my inbox every weekday morning to remind me to check this granddaddy of association media sites. The Editors’ Blogs are always worth reading as are the daily Buzz articles.

The DelCor Connection: If you want to receive regular advice about technology strategy and management from the DelCor consultants, subscribe to this blog. They’ll tell you what you need to know to ensure your technology, processes, and people work together to help your association achieve its goals.

Association Success: This new kid on the block is a collaborative effort from AMS provider Aptify, online community provider Rasa.io, and other partners. They’ve got an online community in addition to the articles on the website—you might recognize a few of the regular contributors.

Newsletters

Sticky Conference: Each edition of this monthly newsletter from conference and trade show consultants, Velvet Chainsaw, is devoted to one challenge or issue. In June, the mix of articles from Velvet Chainsaw’s consultants and other writers focused on attendee data.

Leading Learning: This newsletter from Jeff Cobb and Celisa Steele at Tagoras, an educational consulting firm, provides a curated selection of resources for continuing education and professional development professionals. Their picks are always good reads even if you aren’t in the education business, after all, we’re all lifelong learners.

Association Marketing and More: Marketing consultant Scott Oser reads lots of articles so you don’t have to. Every other week he sends out his selections, a few articles in each of the areas his newsletter covers: marketing, membership, and sales.

Podcasts

I’ve been a podcast junkie for several years now so I’m happy to see more people in the association community venturing into the audio world.

Leading Learning: Yes, Tagoras again! Celisa and Jeff’s podcast is all about next practices in learning. Don’t miss their excellent insight and interviews packed into 30 minutes.

Driving Participation: Another great podcast for our community is hosted by Beth Brodovsky, founder of Iris Creative, a strategic membership communications firm. She and her guests discuss marketing, communications, volunteer management, and other approaches to “driving participation”—“what’s working to get people to show up, stick around and give back.”

If you have favorite blogs, newsletters, podcasts, or webcasts, please let me know in the comments so I can check them out. I’ll feature more of my favorites in a future post.

Association Brain Food Weekly is published Friday mornings. If your organization offers professional development for the association community, please send me the link via email or Twitter.

After more than 20 years managing associations and restaurants, she's enjoying the good life as a ghostblogger and content marketing writer for the association community. Away from her laptop, you can find her walking in the woods, enjoying live music, reading hundreds of newsletters, watching hockey, cooking, hanging at the local brewery or tap room, or relaxing in a comfy chair with a good Kindle book and a glass of something tasty in hand.
