The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community…

intricate-explorer-RuAwY35TB2k-unsplash

The state of associations. Cecilia Sepp, CAE, founder of Rogue Tulips, recently released the findings of their September association survey, What’s Next for Associations. Reading survey results is sort of like, for me, peeking into someone’s pantry—you get a sense of their inner workings and thinking.

Frugal innovation. Due to the pandemic and uncertain economy, associations are constantly creating new resources for members and making changes to business as usual—yes, they’re innovating! Praise be. WBT Systems describes 12 essentials for frugal innovation, the only kind your budget probably allows.

AMS considerations. If you’re hunting for new association management software, take a look at Ernie Smith’s advice in Associations Now. He describes several issues you should consider during AMS research and selection.

Virtual conference pricing. Dr. Michael Tatonetti, CAE, explains how to use price anchoring to determine registration rates for your virtual conference. By the way, he’s the director of certification and education at the Professional Pricing Society so he knows what he’s talking about.

Content audit. If you’re thinking about doing a content audit as preparation for developing a content strategy, Hilary Marsh shares a content audit planning worksheet and issues to consider before diving in.

Quick hits before we get to the list of next week’s free education:

  • How to connect with the co-workers you’re missing. (Anna Goldfarb, The New York Times)
  • As the Swedes say, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” How to cope with the long, cold Covid winter. (Kate Mooney, The Guardian)

Good eats—skip down to the list of free webinars if you prefer take-out. If you’re a home cook, check out the weekly In The Kitchen posts on my Grabbing the Gusto blog.

  • While we were away, my weekly fish share was frozen and put aside for me, which is how I ended up with a pound of frozen yellowfin tuna. What to do? Defrost it and make a luxurious tuna noodle casserole. Casserole recipes are flexible by nature, so instead of asparagus and scallions, I included broccoli stems, carrot and garlic chives along with the other vegetables.
  • When in need of a simple fish dish, like I did for black drum last week, blackened fillets are a cinch.
  • Green beans are all over the farmers market right now. I can’t resist their dark green snappiness so I just lightly season and steam them. Another night, I sautéed a mix of mustard greens and kale with red onion, sweet peppers and garlic.
  • Roasted root vegetables will make regular appearances from now on. This week, I served sweet potatoes and baby turnips tossed and roasted with red onion, garlic, smoked paprika and thyme.

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have a free webinar or event coming up, please send me the link before Wednesday evening the week before it’s scheduled. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.
